Biologists find battered network of bees pollinating plants, raising worry about human diet

Two WUSTL biologists have determined the network of insects pollinating plants has been battered by climate change and habitat loss. The network is not as strong as it was a century ago, and the loss should concern everyone because without insect pollination, people’s diets could be limited to grasses such as wheat and corn.

WUSTL doctor teaches emergency medicine
to Bolivian medical workers

Michael Mullins, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine, went to Bolivia to share his expertise with doctors, nurses and paramedics there. He and other U.S. health-care workers trained Bolivians through Project Helping Hands, which provides health care and education in developing countries. Shown is a roomful of paramedics who sought training.

Bang’s translation of Dante’s Inferno lands on notable lists

The Academy of American Poets has selected Mary Jo Bang’s translation of Dante’s Inferno as one of the Notable Books of 2012. Bang is a professor of English in Arts & Sciences. Her Inferno: A New Translation was among only 12 books that made the 2012 list. The American Library Association also selected Bang’s Inferno for its Notable Books for Adults 2013 list.

WUSTL’s Police and Parking Services departments, in partnership with Hartmann’s Towing, is offering free vehicle inspections for students, faculty and staff Saturday, March 2. The service is to aid those who plan to travel by car for spring break March 10-16.
